DARPA’s Electronics Resurgence Initiative got started a year ago and includes efforts in “aggressive specialization” for chip architectures, systems smart enough to reconfigure themselves for any kind of data, open-source hardware, 24-hour push-button system design, and carbon-nanotube-enabled 3D chip manufacturing, among other cool things. IEEE Spectrum’s Samuel K. Moore spoke with DARPA’s Mark Rosker about how these projects are progressing ahead of second ERI Summit in Detroit next month.
