Scientists paint quantum electronics with beams of light

The University of Chicago‪#‎UChicago‬ researchers recently discovered that their lab’s fluorescent lights emitted at a wavelength that changed the electronic properties of the materials they were studying.
“It’s one of those rare moments in experimental science where a seemingly random event—turning on the room lights—generated unexpected effects with potentially important impacts in science and technology," said Prof. David D. Awschalom, a lead researcher on the project and deputy directory of The University of Chicago Institute for Molecular Engineering.
